The Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system officially brought 3D into portable gaming this spring, but at a steep price of $250. That's not only $100 more than most Nintendo Wii full-sized console bundles, but it's also a lot to ask in a market that's made billions over the years on the backs of hand held devices that cost half that much. Now Sony has announced the details of its next portable platform, the PlayStation Vita, and it also promises more tech ... and more price tag -- as high as $300 for a version with 3G connectivity. As we learned in preparing our just updated report on hand held game systems, critics are certainly impressed with devices like the Nintendo 3DS, with its bright, beautiful, truly 3D display that requires no clunky glasses. But users are casting a different vote with their wallets as despite all that critical acclaim, sales thus far have been only lukewarm.
