Open Question: Best camping ground in ny ?

So something thats close to the city. Not like so close that you can still see the sky scapers and hear the cars but something that wont take over 3 hours to get to.
I need a place where we can get me, my husband, my 13 year old daughter and about 4 or 5 of her friends. Somewhere we can put like two big tents down on and have a campfire. We're not interested in renting out a cabin or anything, just a place for out tents and a campfire. Somewhere with a lake too, that would be great.
