Resolved Question: Has anyone been "dispersed camping" (remote camping) around Estes Park, CO.?

I'm looking to go camping with some buddies sometime between August and September 2012. I do a lot of remote camping in the area of Missouri that I'm from, and would be very interested in "non-campground" camping in the Estes Park area.

My questions are, how exactly does dispersed camping work? Do I need a permit or permission? Can I pull off anywhere in the National Park to camp? Is there restrictions to where I can and can't camp? And, if you've been dispersed camping, what was your experience like?
I will be driving to a location for camping. With as many people as we'll have, we'll need more equipment then we could carry backpacking alone. Another quick question, is there a requirement for how long you can camp in one area when dispersed camping? And, also, is there a requirement for how many tents can be set on a site? We'll most likely have 3 tents in our group, probably for 6 or 8 people.
